Whats the difference between HPHT & CVD?
HPHT (High-Pressure High-Temperature) and CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) are two distinct methods used to create lab-grown or synthetic diamonds. Here's the difference between them:
- HPHT: In the HPHT process, a small diamond seed is exposed to high pressure (around 725,000 pounds per square inch) and high temperature (around 1,500 to 2,000 degrees Celsius) conditions similar to those found deep within the Earth's mantle. Carbon atoms from a carbon source are used to grow the diamond around the seed crystal.
- CVD: In the CVD process, a diamond seed is placed in a vacuum chamber, and a mixture of gases, typically methane and hydrogen, is introduced. When these gases are ionized using microwaves or other methods, carbon atoms are deposited onto the seed crystal layer by layer, gradually growing the diamond.
HPHT usually produces higher colour and clarity diamonds which don't require post-growth treatment.
Can you custom cut diamonds for me?
We are able to take special orders for custom cut diamonds whatever the size or quantity. This process usually takes 6-8 weeks to have the order shipped. If you have something in mind, please get in touch.
What is the Kimberly Process?
The Kimberley Process (KP) is an international certification system established in 2003 to prevent the trade in conflict diamonds. It sets strict requirements for the sourcing and trade of rough diamonds, ensuring they are ethically mined and not used to fund armed conflicts. The KP involves tracking diamonds from their origin to prevent mixing with conflict diamonds and relies on cooperation between governments, the diamond industry, and civil society organizations. The Kimberley Process has played a crucial role in ensuring that more than 99% of diamonds in the global trade are now ethically sourced and free from conflicts.
Where do you source your diamonds?
We source our diamonds from a network of reputable suppliers and mines that adhere to strict ethical and responsible sourcing practices and are Kimberly Process certified. We prioritise the ethical and environmental considerations of our diamond sourcing and work closely with suppliers who share our commitment to responsible practices. Rest assured, the diamonds we offer meet the highest standards of quality, ethics, and sustainability.
What are blood diamonds and how can I avoid them?
Blood diamonds, also known as conflict diamonds, are gemstones mined in war zones and used to fund armed conflict against governments. To ensure you avoid purchasing these unethical diamonds, buy from reputable jewellers and retailers who follow ethical sourcing practices such as ensuring a Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) certificate is held by their suppliers. Consider choosing lab-grown diamonds, which are produced ethically and sustainably, guaranteeing they are free from conflict. By staying informed and making conscious choices, you can contribute to the effort to eliminate the trade in blood diamonds.
Are your diamonds conflict free?
Yes, absolutely. We are committed to providing only conflict-free diamonds to our customers. Our diamonds are sourced from reputable suppliers who adhere to strict ethical standards and comply with the Kimberley Process. This internationally recognised certification scheme ensures that diamonds are not associated with funding conflict or human rights abuses. You can trust that our diamonds are not only stunning in quality but also ethically and responsibly sourced.
What are lab grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds, also known as synthetic or cultured diamonds, are man-made gemstones created in a laboratory setting rather than being formed naturally deep within the Earth's crust. These diamonds share the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as natural diamonds, making them visually and chemically identical. They are produced using advanced technological processes that simulate the natural diamond-growing environment, resulting in diamonds that are ethically sourced, environmentally friendly, and often more affordable than their mined counterparts. Lab-grown diamonds offer a responsible and sustainable choice for fine jewellery.
What is moissanite?
Moissanite is a remarkable gemstone that's become increasingly popular in the world of jewellery. It's composed of silicon carbide and is known for its brilliant sparkle and remarkable durability. Moissanite is often used as a diamond alternative in jewellery due to its visual similarity to diamonds but at a more affordable price point. It's a stunning, ethical choice for engagement rings, earrings, and other fine jewellery pieces.
